GEO 101: How Generative Engines Discover Content

Great post Diane and absolutely spot on.

The one thing I would add into the mix is trust and authority. While ‘DA’ is not a direct GEO ranking factor it is still a powerful indirect metric.

I’ve seen platforms like Coda and Medium cited in the AI overviews where the content is .. less than stellar, shall we say.

The authority of a domain makes it more likely that AI crawlers will pick up that content in the first place and without that discovery, you’re already on the back foot. Even if your content ticks all the boxes.

Let’s just say, parasite SEO is alive and kicking :slight_smile: … or should I say ‘parasite GEO’ … lol

But y’know what? A lot of this debate always comes back to this for me:

You can work your socks off getting cited in GEO only to see absolutely no uptick in traffic … and I fail to see how that is a sustainable ecosystem, either for publishers or the search engines.
