Protect your facebook account and Instagram (if you have it)

Last week, I got an official mail by Instagram ( I checked first with chatGPT if it wasn’t a phishing thing), saying that my Instagram account was blocked, for now.

So, I don’t know if you guys remembered, but some years ago, I lost my Facebook account, which had 2 groups with together 40k members, and such.

My first thought was though now: gosh, this did not effect my Facebook again, did it? Luckily, it wasn’t. But I spend a long evening and lots of hours after I got my Instagram back, chatting again with GP, to be absolutely sure this would never happen again, especially after building up everything again by myself (my miniature stuff).

Long story short: Instagram blocked my account, because someone was TRYING to get back in, but they didn’t get in, probably because I had the authenticator app set up. (pffffjuuuuu)

So if you are serious about growin on Facebook and/or Instagram, and you have both accounts connected in Meta, please make sure to setup:

  • 2-step verification (both separately)
  • authentication app for both as well
  • and for Facebook: today, I set up ‘advanced protection’ as well on Facebook ( I actually got an official email by FB telling me that I am obliged to do this. Please check if this is true in your account first, instead of clicking on something in any email that you receive)

if someone could now still get into my accounts, well then there’s not a lot more I can do I guess. lol

I do feel kind of safe now, finally. Just be very carefull still with any email you recieve and avoid clicking on anything ‘phishy’.

2FA and authenticator apps are becoming ‘a must’ for most of our online activities these days.

It’s true you do need to be so careful nowadays. One thing you can do for a relatively quick check is to copy & paste the email headers straight into your favourite AI and ask it to verify the legitimacy.

Chatty usually does a pretty good job :slight_smile:

Lol … the funniest thing is, all this technology was supposed to save us time but it seems to be doing the exact opposite sometimes

I don’t even bother with Facebook at all for business purposes and haven’t for a while. But I might give it a try on a separate account, at a different place (library) and on a separate computer (also library). :smiley:

I am planning a new FB account and I will set it up inside a Faraday cage, situated on one of Elon’s Starlink satellites behind 4 VPNs wearing a balaclava.
