Hi Dave and welcome to the forum
I don’t know all that much about Charlie but, as you say, he has an impressive following on Skool and his free course does seem to offer some genuine value.
Because I fancy myself as a bit of a Sherlock Holmes, I spent some time digging through various Reddit discussions and other forum posts around Imperium Academy.
Just trying to get a clearer picture of how real users are reacting. The sentiment is definitely mixed and fairly polarised. Slightly more negative than positive I’d say.
Negatives:
On the skeptical side, a lot of commenters see Imperium Academy as a classic sales funnel. The free course is viewed as trust-building content that eventually leads into sales calls and upsells for higher-ticket programs like EasyGrow.
Several people describe the material as generic or recycled, claiming it overlaps heavily with other consulting or agency accelerators and doesn’t offer a clear “secret sauce.”
Many people mention that the “endless EasyGrow drops” get really annoying really quickly, even though Charlie often proclaims that he “doesn’t care” if you don’t upgrade (that’s clearly the goal of the funnel).
Another common complaint is time inefficiency. Many videos run well over two hours, with heavy emphasis on mindset, psychology, evolution, and theory.
Critics argue these ideas are nothing new, could be delivered in a fraction of the time and feel unnecessary for someone who just wants practical guidance on starting and running an agency.
A few reviewers were especially frustrated by frequent self-promotion and reminders of paid offers throughout the free course.
Phew … ok so not great so far!
Positives:
Having said that, there’s a small but vocal group defending the program.
Supporters tend to emphasise the depth of the mindset and identity work, saying it goes far beyond surface-level motivation. Some describe the psychology modules as genuinely eye-opening, even “therapy-like,” and claim it helped them understand why their previous efforts weren’t working.
A recurring defence is that critics either didn’t finish the course or expected quick, tactical shortcuts rather than a long-term framework.
Interestingly, even positive reviewers usually acknowledge that Imperium Academy is a funnel, but argue that this isn’t a problem given the course is free and upfront about the long timelines involved.
A few also note that Charlie explicitly warns results can take a year or more, which filters out people chasing fast wins (also setting you up for the upgrade).
Overall takeaway:
Imperium Academy appears legitimate in the sense that it delivers substantial content for free, but it’s not universally appealing and is most likely generic information you can find anywhere online.
People looking for concise, step-by-step agency tactics often feel it wastes time. Those open to long-form, psychology-heavy training tend to find real value.
The main cost isn’t money - it’s whether you’re willing to invest significant time and tolerate the constant upsell.
If you go in clear-eyed about that, it seems to do exactly what it says on the tin. Just try to be objective about the upsell and don’t let your emotional self take over the decision making!
I hope that helps you decide and if you do give it a try, let us know how you got on with it!
