Anyone noticing a Google update right now?

Hi everyone, quick question. My GSC stats have been acting strange this week. Impressions have dropped quite a lot, but clicks are still holding steady. I also came across a few Reddit threads where people are reporting the same thing.

Is anyone else noticing odd patterns like this? Wondering if Google might be rolling out an update.

Hi Sarah,

Google has a core update happening for over a week and a half now, something like that. It is very volatile here at the moment as well, but holding on to a steady 500 clicks a day, which I'll take hahaha!

I don't know when it will be over though

@sarahggal Hey Sarah ... as Lizzy says, there is a spam update happening at the moment.

Seems to be quite a big one too. Lots of volatility. All the usual catastrophisation on Reddit and elsewhere. Google says it will take "a few weeks". The SERPs usually flux for 2-3 weeks after an update too so it could be mid-October before we can draw conclusions.

Really appreciate the insights here. I checked my finance site again this morning and the pattern is the same: impressions are down but clicks are still pretty solid. That lines up exactly with what Sarah mentioned. Honestly I am feeling a bit of cautious optimism. If this update clears out some of the low quality stuff, smaller sites like mine might finally see a window to breathe. At the same time, I know it can take weeks for the SERPs to settle, so I am trying not to read too much into it yet.

Thanks so much for the replies everyone, this is really helpful. It’s reassuring to know I’m not the only one seeing this GSC weirdness. I’ll check the SEO forums next time!

Past updates haven’t really affected me that much (too smalltime probably). Just wondering why it takes so long before things start to settle? Just trying to set my expectations so I don’t overreact too quickly.
