Banned on Medium!

So, firstly, I have several Medium accounts and have only been banned on one, no problem with the others, I am still happily earning money through their Partner Program!

However, this particular account was set up only a couple of weeks ago specifically to promote products from the likes of ClickBank, Digistore24, and Sell Health.

It had numerous posts, not all of them product-based, there were informational posts too, so as not to look spammy.

There was no problem until yesterday when I wrote a product review on Provestra, which is a women's sexual health supplement, promoted through Sell Health.

And this morning when I logged in - BOOM!

The dreaded red banner informing me I was in violation of their policies!

I can only assume it was the Provestra review, and when I search Medium, there are only about 3 posts that mention this product, and they don't have affiliate links, they link back to posts on a website.

So, just be careful with the products you promote on Medium, and always search the platform first to ensure that they appear to be allowing these particular reviews.

Don't take this to mean that you shouldn't follow Partha's Parasite SEO course, in fact, it's quite the opposite!

If you look at Rohan's screenshot below, my review reached position 22 in less than 24 hours.

I would have let it do its own thing for a week or so, and then if it still had a reasonable ranking, purchased one of Partha's backlink packages.

Bearing in mind, that the commission is 40%, up to $90 per sale, I would hope to be in profit!

If you search on Medium, for other well-known Clickbank products such as Java Burn or Liv Pure or ProDentim, there are lots of posts, so clearly there is no problem overall with doing this.

And yes, I will simply start again with another account!

Thanks for the words of advice as usual Diane. That's a great tip to search Medium for the product you're promoting. Something really popular on CB but with no-one promoting it via a parasite maybe warrants further digging!

Seeing quite a few parasites in the SERP ... Medium at #22 ... that was you I think?

@rohanm Lol, that was my review on Medium!

If you click on it, you will see it has gone!

Yeah I saw that and edited my post above ... lol

Hi Diane

Sorry to hear you had one of your Medium accounts banned. You mention that the commission is 40%, up to $90 per sale. How about checking into promoting this particular product with a Google or Bing PPC search ad campaign? At $90 per sale, perhaps the ROI could be good, especially with Bing ad pricing.

Maybe Partha mentions why this would not be worthwhile. I haven't read his parasite SEO course yet. I've been busy getting my home septic system hydro-jetted. Lol šŸ˜Ž

@frank It’s an interesting idea, but really the purpose behind this course is to show that you can make money online without any investment!

@diane Don’t we have to pay for the backlinks to get ranked well enough to make ā€œgoodā€ money?? I’d better read Partha’s course to see what it’s really all about. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

@frank Good point, well made, lol.

You don’t have to pay for backlinks, if the content ranks highly by itself, by virtue of it being on a high domain authority.

But yes, if it needs an extra nudge, then backlinks would help it on its way!

Hey Diane,

You mentioned you have several Medium accounts, do you still post on any of them.

How are the results?

If not anymore, how come?

And were your accounts simply following Partha's strategy for the "embarrassing" products/niches?

I only have one Medium account now, and I use it simply for publishing fiction and poetry. My earnings vary from $10 to $80 per month, but its something I do for fun/relaxation, rather than a consistent form of income.

To be honest, I soon lost interest in publishing parasite SEO posts on my other accounts, although I know it can be successful. Its not something I enjoyed, so I moved on!

ohw, did they give you a reason for the ban? Havent posted there in ages. Should probably just make it a regular action, after I posted a new blog post or update an old one.

I used to do all of it for SEO reasons, when I just posted a new blog post: immediately share it everywhere, on Facebook, Pinterest, Youtube (community tab), Instagram, Medium and sometimes Reddit. Stopped doing that for most, except Pinterest and Youtube. ( I get a lot more likes and engagment on YT than ever on Facebook). But like you, I got so tired of doing that. (separate messages for Facebook, rephrase it for Medium, rephrase it again for Reddit, ugh, got sick of it lol). Especially because my niche is image rich, not just text based. And then after doing all that, I was an hour further already.
That being said, I'm still sure I SHOULD be all over Facebook, Medium and Reddit again, because that is where my audience is. I.. Just..Have.. no.. energy any longer for that, after my hack Ć nd losing a Reddit account. Sigh.
Just ranting and complaining lol

@ohnoo_not_her This was last year, after I tried Parasite SEO, and Medium cracked down on certain product reviews as being spammy.

But Medium can still be very useful for ranking your posts and sending traffic. You can see from this screenshot, that a post from a website I uploaded over 2 years ago, still gets views, with nearly 5,000 visits from Google.
