Hey Everyone,

As always, I'll keep this short and sweet... WHAT?? Why You Laughing?

I really am.

Let's face facts, the word "branding" is being "branded about" (d'ya see what I did there, LOL) everywhere you look, and it's been going on for years.

"BRANDING" (No, Old Fluff, put the Cognac down, that is NOT what I said!! 🤣🤣)

You kinda nod yer head, smile awkwardly, but in reality, you're like... "Hmm, what the hell you talking about!!"

In reality, for most, you're too "young" (your website/business, not YOU!! You're ancient!! 🤣🤣) or "not known well enough" to be considered a "brand" on the internet.

I mean, No-one's gonna mistake you for a Nike, or a Coke, or an Amazon, are they?

However, when it comes to online marketing, "branding" is extremely important, and if we've learned anything from the last 9 months of Google "bombs" it's that being a recognsable brand means you can do whatever you like and get away with it 🤣🤣🤣 Sorry, that was just "sour grapes" 🤣🤣🤣 but, what I mean is, as a reconisable "brand" you appear to get more "leniency" (you look more like a legitimate business... did I really have to spell it out for you???)

Anyway, in keeping with "keeping things short", today's lesson... lesson number ONE in the "branding series" is:

Get your website homepage url, so basically copy your domain name (you just know someone's gonna get it wrong... "Eeerm, welll, I tried it with Facebook /com but I didn't see what you said I should!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🙈🙈🙈🙈 Idiot!!!)

Right, so get/copy your domain name and then put it into the address bar at the top of your browser (not on THIS page, open a NEW TAB!!! 🤣🤣) and choose "Google Search", so you actually go to the Google search page and NOT your website.

I want you to scroll down through all the results you can now without having to "click more"... is it 40 results now in Google?

Anyway, out of those 40 results how many are actually related to YOUR WEBSITE?

That is "Lesson One" over.

Please (be honest) put YOUR number out of 40 in the comments below.

So, when you put your domain name into Google search how many results out of the top 40 were EXACTLY related to YOUR WEBSITE?

Kinda lost count, but around 28 or maybe even 30 with my MM website, the new one was 0 🤣🤣

I was gonna put A- at 31 and a straight A at 35 and if we really have to have an A-Star or A+ (didn't have it when I was young, LOL!) that will be a 39 or 40!

Well, I just thought no one would search for something like that, but I guess that's not part of the brand test you suggested.

That's the problem with us engineers — we sometimes make needless assumptions. 🤣

Btw, it's not 16, it's 20. Some of them are on that big chess site, Facebook, LinkedIn, Medium, Pinterest, and then my website, so it's fair to say I'm doing a reasonably good job at leaving my digital footprint.

60 (before the more results button) for my domain in quotes in a Google incognito window. Haha, I know this doesn't truly represent a strong brand.
