Good morning ... it's bright and early here in the UK!
So, I’m looking to create a structured social media marketing strategy template that I can adapt across different platforms.
There's quite a bit online on this but I get so tunnel visioned! So I thought I'd ask you guys. If you were building one from scratch, what key sections would you include? For example, should it cover goals, audience, content pillars, posting schedules, or engagement metrics?
I’d love to see how you social media wizards embody your strategies or any templates you’ve found useful.
Which social media are you trying to get on? And what niches are you in?
The above answers will help better build out whatever SM you're trying to target.
In answer to your actual question - it really depends on what type of person you are. My wife is very structured oriented. She wants to know things beforehand - benchmarks, plans, how things will work, etc.
Me on the other hand, well, I just have an idea and then try it, lol. When I'm starting new though these are just some questions that I like to think about:
What is the end results of this growth/strategy? How do I plan to monetize this traffic/account? What metric/benchmark do I need to it in XX weeks before I call it quits?
For example, I'm currently experiementing with creating memes and posting them on a FB page, and then sharing them in other relevant groups with the hope for people to follow my page (and thus my page's audience would grow over time).
So to answer my own questions....
My end result is to grow my FB page so that when I start sharing my URLs/blog posts, there will be enough of an audience that will click through and get to my site (and from there to my affiliate links/products). Monetizing it will be either sending them to my site OR getting large enough that if I do post reels/AI-generated video memes I can monetize them (since you can actually do that on FB surprisingly). Right now, I actually have like 2 more weeks of trying this - if I can't break through past 200+ followers within that time, then I'm going to stop and try something different or use my energy on something else.
I don't know if that helps or answered your question, but that is sort of how I look at building out a strategy for different socials.
To answer your questions - I’m mainly focusing on Instagram and TikTok at the moment, though I might dip into Facebook later on. My niches are around sustainability, eco-friendly living and simple lifestyle content.
My goal is mostly to build steady engagement and get more eyes on what we’re doing rather than worry about monetising just yet. I’m keeping an eye on reach and engagement each week and hoping to spot some patterns before setting proper growth targets.
I like your idea of giving things a set time before deciding whether to keep going. Keeps me from tinkering forever and driving myself mad. Do you reckon two weeks is enough time to see if something’s working, or do you usually stretch it out a bit longer?
I'd stretch it a bit longer than 2 weeks if you are just starting out - I've been trying to grow mine for a while now, and I'm getting to the end of my cut off limit. I'd say 3-6 months, since that what it usually takes.
If you really want to talk with someone who grew an IG account, I'd reach out to @Yusuf - he grew his IG account to 20K+ followers with math engineering. I'm not sure if he's still around or not, but if he does see this, I'm hoping he would chime in.
@andy Ah right, that’s good to know, cheers Andy. I was definitely being a bit over-eager there thinking I’d see much after a couple of weeks. I’ll try to be patient… though easier said than done, isn’t it?
