Leaving WA and Domain transfer question

Hey everyone — I wanted to share something:
I’ve decided to leave Wealthy Affiliate.

Even though I pay the $299/year Black Friday rate, I just don’t use WA anymore, and I no longer find real value in the training.

One of the things I do want to do is transfer my domains out of WA. I’d love to hear from people here:

  • What was your experience transferring domains away from WA?

  • Which registrar/provider did you use — and would you recommend them?

  • Any warnings, tips, or pitfalls I should be aware of (authorization codes, domain lock, renewal costs, etc.)?

Thanks in advance for any advice or personal experiences.

Hi Mike,

I have left WA some time ago, after I got silence banned lol. To be totally honest as well: their hosting and site support was bad, very bad, in the first place. Since I have switched to wpx.net, I have no more downtimes , no more ‘dangerous site’ - issues at all. What a relief!

Even when I have an issue with a plugin or something, they help me out like almost straight away. On WA, that kind of support was non -excisting. On the contrary, they decided what you could use on your site and what not (even if you bloody payed for a plugin), without even warning you, and you had to beg them to make ‘an exception’. That’s where i’ve had enough.

I’d have to check, because I’m paying yearly now, but I think it is about 30 $ per month now. (2 sites and 1 subdomain)

I’ve read that their site support is now AI driven? I would think that would make it even harder to switch, ugh.

Anyway, there is already a free chat on wpx.net that you can talk to, without even having subscribed to them. They are very helpful, and I’m sure they will help you out with your questions!

( WA will be very hesitant to help you switch hosting, so you really need to insist about it, OR make NOISE in the community if their support doesnt help you, you have nothing to lose as you are leaving anyway!) They will ask you why you would need those codes etc blablabla, unless they have changed their attitudes by now. It was very bad towards me.

It’s good to see that I havent missed anything there anymore, glad I’m gone there. I made a new free account a few months ago, and Kyles newsletter don’t mean a thing, apparently they made their own ‘image creator’, hahahahahaha.

Good luck,
Lizzy

It wasn’t too difficult to leave move things, though the initial time I did, it was sort of a pain - I had fairly large sites, and living at a place that didn’t have goo download speeds, so moving that site was an issue. I think though now they can offer download links, so where ever you go should be able to download it directly from WA’s servers.

I personally use WPX, but am probably going to be moving away from them next year when my renewal is up. I’ve found a better reseller hosting place that I can put my sites and others on (WPX is great, there has just been some major issues when they rolled out their new design. That turned me off and then several problems came up on my account personally that I don’t think they’ve fixed. Nothing major, but enough for me to decide to leave. But in terms of actual hosting and support, they are pretty solid). They also probably have a good Black Friday deal coming up you could take too.

If you are moving to WPX, I do have some videos that I can send your way that walks you through the whole process (if I can still find them). It’s really not that difficult. Just move the actual site files over, then point your domains to the new nameserver, and then move your domains (when you are ready to move them).

Hi Mike

I too transferred my domains from WA to WPX which has worked well for me. It wasn’t too difficult and I got good site support when needed.

I hope you find what you need.

Hey Mike,

Even at $299 /year I’m still of the opinion that Wealthy Affiliate is a rapidly failing destination. Sure, the founders along with their henchmen and women have made a pretty penny out of the broken dreams of thousands of others. Reading the weekly updates from the WA camp, the vibe comes across as ever more desperate.

But hey … here’s some juicy strawberries :strawberry: :strawberry: :strawberry: to make up for it.

Anyway, I don’t want to get into a big ole rant about that place. Been there, done that.

I’m going to swim against the tide here and recommend Namecheap for domains and hosting. If your site is not generating a lot of traffic then their basic shared hosting plan is adequate to help you build something bigger. They have a lot of tools to make your life easier. Auto SSL installations on cPanel for example and their transfers are always seamless.

And I can only say, the hosting has been exceptional for the price. Rock solid, speedy and almost no downtime. I have 10 or more domains on the basic plan currently and honestly, no complaints.

As for my experience leaving WA … it was not a happy time. Their support was abysmal and I ended up advising them what to do. Honestly, before they realised I knew what I was talking about (having run various hosting operations for many years) I was treated like an absolute chump.

To use a UK’ism … they just took the p1ss out of me. Apologies for the mild profanity but I tend to get a little worked up when I think back to how they treated me!

My advice is to be very sure what you want them to do (ask questions here if you need to) and insist they attend to your requests promptly. Don’t let a support ticket go unanswered for more than 12 hours or so. Keep on at them constantly because, in my experience, unless you are very direct and insistent, WA support will just try to fob you off with lame excuses.

Ok … I’m going to go and have a little lie down now.

Ha ha ha … I also still get their emails. It’s just an embarrassment at this point!

As for AI driven support  It was bad enough when human driven!

true to that! That’s why I said, like you, keep insisting or make noise in the community/in their life chat. you might get a silence ban, like I had though, lol . You can’t talk bad about their ‘top hosting on the market’ hahahaa

The problem is, noobs don’t know any different and that is how the WA cult has managed to keep luring people in with their grand claims.

Silence/belittle the critics and keep peddling the affiliate dream.

totally, I stayed way to long myself. I’m not sure if they can just go on with that

I was there 18 months I think. Lucky enough to come across Partha, with his 2000 word responses and real, actionable advice. In fact I only really stayed with WA to interact with one or two key people!
