Read the Affiliate Terms and Conditions!

So, hands up, let's be honest, who actually bothers to read the affiliate terms and conditions?

Have you ever wondered why you are getting clicks but no sales?

Perhaps you are breaking the rules of the affiliate program, and your sales are not valid!

Here's an example, I have written a product review to promote something from Digistore24.

And these are some of the terms and conditions -

Affiliates must make it clear that the page is a REVIEW page and you're being compensated for the review. Therefore, any page and all creative contained therein must include the word 'REVIEW' in the title, the URL, and any graphics used in the cover image or profile image. This includes blogs, webpages, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or ANY OTHER online entity whether or not it is considered to be "social media".

Affiliates are NOT permitted to use ANY before and after photos or user testimonials in their promotions.

Affiliates may also not use any terminology in ads or landing pages that are similar to "scam" or "fraud."

I suspect that many of you are guilty of doing some of the above, we've all seen the typical "Product XXX - Is It a Scam?" type of review.

Or maybe you automatically include user testimonials.

For this particular product, that is against their rules, and not only will you not receive a commission if employing these tactics, but you could be banned from the program!

ack - the whole “is this a scam’ debate. That’s why I stopped calling things a scam when I was (trying to) run a ‘we get scammed for you’ business. You wouldn’t know how many scammy products we looked at were actually legit businesses, lol.

Hi Diane, long time no see! Of course, we could get away with that “ product XXX-is it a scam?” back in 2018 or 2019 but not anymore. As you stated due to many affiliate terms and conditions do ban those words. That was the case back then too but people continued to do it. After HCU update, many of us lost our sites. I quit blogging after getting hit with one of those Google’s update a few years ago.

AI now rules the whole Internet.

I still have three domain names and hosting at Hostinger. They are just sitting there on a wordpress theme. I have not done anything with it yet. I do miss writing. I got the writing itch but certainly I am not planning on blogging anymore. Im done with that . I am done with affiliate marketing too. As you know I still dislike social media. I will not be involved with that either.

I am working on setting up my digital marketing agency in 2026 focus on offering services (just basic services that includes buidling wordpress website, Google reputuation management, miss calls text back features) to small businesses. I need to get my LLC set up, the paperwork, the fed taxes id number, and all that. A friend in town is helping me with this so thats my goal. Hope all is well with you. Enjoy the festivities of the new year.

Brenda, how nice to see you again! Yes, I remember your dislike of social media, no matter how hard I tried to convince you!

That’s an interesting idea for a new agency, you’re aimed at the right problems. Small businesses reliably want a decent website that loads fast and looks trustworthy, more (and better) Google reviews, and fewer missed leads when they’re busy.

You can do a “setup fee + monthly maintenance” package to cover the initial work and give you ongoing income.

Good luck, let us know how you’re getting on, and Happy New Year!
