Facebook pages- building for monetization

Hi everyone,

Before I left for South Africa, I mentioned I was going to expand again on Facebook, after I got hacked last year.
So, I already had 2 pages set up, one for my minisite and one for my Africa site, but besides using ads, I couldn’t really get the followers up. Also, to be honest, it still is a lot of work to post regularly if you don’t look for help.

Our Diane here, has been helping me out, in the meantime, but somehow whenever I stopped any adds, the followers just went down and down again, it was frustrating.

In the meantime, however, I have been following a number of Facebook experts on X, Youtube , etc. You’d be surprised how much free information you can get out there!

For example Publisher in a box: Account Setup Best Practices - publisherinabox.com , I really recommend subscribing to his newsletter, it is a great source of info about Facebook.

While he has an elite thing going on, well yeah, I still can’t effort that large amount of money at once, eventhough i am now monetized with Mediavine - lol :-p

But then, black friday came around, and I took a chance, and had a consult with Andy from ‘Hikeyourlikes’ , not expecting to much from it. Both me and Diane were surprised however, his hour long consult is really good!

He also sells a Facebook course, but I’m not sure if it would be worth the extra, if you already have a (baby) page growing on Facebook.

To summarize the consult, what we now do is diversify my posts on my page https://www.facebook.com/AdventurousAfrica , with daily reels, informational posts (genre: things to know about a giraffe, for example), memes (jokes or things that went viral from others and repurpose that), and in my niche, I can simply post a picture of a bird and I get lots of likes lol.

A few weeks later (how long was it now, not sure), coincedence or not, I got monetized! (did you know you can get monetized on facebook?) .

So, you might wonder if the traffic to my site has gone up to, that was the first intent after all, honestly: not yet, but I should start to ‘see interesting things’, when I have reached 25k followers.

Also, facebook has been doing weird things in this last season of the year, testing things out. As I was banned for a while from placing links in the comments below the posts, aaarggghhh.

If I would have been able to place more links, I would have grown my site by now through Facebook, I’m sure. There is even talk about placing a maximum of 2 links per month for facebook business pages, unless you go ‘Meta verified’ .

2 things here:

  • I probably will go Meta verified anyway, after I have reached a certain followers amount, just to protect my facebook account even more. ( I am now using an app as a verification step, it is even better then 2-step verification of your account )
  • If getting meta verified is a condition to place unlimited links on your page, well, I think it would be totally worth it , if you are getting that good amount of traffic, ànd it seems that you would get better and quicker support from Meta in case of issues, which is something very, very important to me!

Let’s see, what else did I want to talk about?

So yeah, sometimes a good course or consult is still worth it, because you might get stuck in your own ways and ‘think’ you are doing everything possible to grow on a certain platform, but that’s not always the case. Basicly, your intuition of what YOU think will work well, isn’t always true! And you need to look at statistics.

Now, Andy has also asked me if I know a good course to begin with, but I havent tried them all, so I can’t really say. But there was one that I got from the ‘introvert entrepreneur’, which was really good, if you just get started. https://www.introverted-entrepreneur.com/facebook-for-niche-sites (not affiliated)

Because , if you start from scratch, you really need to invest in adds first to make a page grow, after that, you can stop the ads. Sadly, out of nowhere, I think it would difficult to grow.

Have I earned much yet with facebook monetization? Honestly: no, not yet, but 16k followers is still not a huge amount to earn good money with fb, and I made many mistakes in the beginning, with buying ads from South-Africa ( I thought I had to , because of the niche, that was silly of me).

So start by buying ads for the USA market, it will save you issues from earning good money later on (also to join journey, for example), and don’t do what I have done lol

Long story short: I am convinced now that Facebook can be a really good platform still to grow, it just takes some investment sadly!

And, follow their rules to the letter!

One other hint that I can still give you: make mistakes in your informational posts, sometimes, the engagment will be fantastic, lol! Just don’t overdo it, and be factual and reliable most of the time. Even grammar mistakes can lead to lots of silly comments (that you just must ignore if you don’t want it to drive you crazy lol!)

Don’t fall for spending way to much free time on it either, just do your posts, and move on with the rest of your work, do NOT go down the rabbithole hahahaha!

Good luck!
Lizzy

This looks really good Lizzy and 16k followers … nice!

You have to be so careful building on other platforms, hey? That sucks though - if it was ok to post links previously and then they change the rules retrospectively!

If you don’t mind me asking, what is your monthly ad spend on average?

Amazing tip! (that works on Reddit too … lol)

Great post Lizzy, thanks for taking the time to share  … keep us posted!

I can only agree with Lizzy - I was concerned initially that she was wasting her money on the consultation, as even at the Black Friday price, it was still expensive! However, it was definitely worth it, and he took the time to relate his advice to her page specifically. We definitely learned a lot of useful information!

Lizzy is using her FB page for two purposes - to send traffic to her website, and to earn through FB monetization. Yes, you can simply get paid for posting videos and images that people share and engage with! You do need to be consistent and post a lot of content - currently, we are adding a minimum of 15 posts per day, and from January, it will be 24, so you do need to put the work in.

I hope Lizzy doesn’t mind me sharing this screenshot of her results over the last 28 days.

Excellent stuff Diane … thanks for the info. That’s some impressive metrics for 28 days!

Nice! I’m actually looking into this too, since my page (only 3.9K followers) just recently got monetized (I haven’t posted anything in about a year), but since it’s connected to a large FB group, I’m guessing that is where they thought, well, something, since they monetized me.

How are you guys scheduling your posts? all manually through Meta business? And are you using any tools to see what did well on your competitor’s pages?

thanks Rohan, took me a while though to get there!

’You have to be so careful building on other platforms, hey? That sucks though - if it was ok to post links previously and then they change the rules retrospectively!’

I think it was because I used a content planner outside from Facebook though, maybe that got flagged somehow. Or it was something they were experimenting with at that time, many things have changed on Facebook in the last season. Maybe just my bad luck at that exact moment, it works in mysterious ways hahaha!

’ If you don’t mind me asking, what is your monthly ad spend on average?’

About a 110-120 per month now. But this includes 2 new ones for my mini page, and I’ve stopped the most for my Africa page, only one left there. The introvert entrepreneurs course teaches you how to get to the cheapest follows. If you notice 1 add costing to much, you stop that and try another, untill you get a list of ones to keep, and go on with over time or untill you have a good amount of followers and they’re no longer needed.

Some still do ‘add-arbitrage’, but I don’t think that’s an easy game at all, pretty risky if you ask me.

’ Amazing tip! (that works on Reddit too … lol)

No problem! Yeah, I imagine that working on Reddit to, I just hate Reddit even more than I do Facebook hahahaha. So darn easy to lose an account there, ugh!

Sure you can and thanks for the extra clarification, your English is better then mine obviously lol

That is pretty amazing to get monetized so quickly, wow! I’ve noticed others saying that at the moment they are monetizing accounts in a fast speed, on the forums it is now one after the other saying they’re monetized, pretty nice of them for once hahahaha!

We’re scheduling with metricool, where you can also scedule comments link- posts beforehand, so I thought that was handy. But I think that was the thing that got me flagged about the comments part, so we’re carefully manually adding back links in the comments. But I’m still scared to do that on my mini page, so I’m waiting to get Meta verified so that I’m sure I can go all in again.
( apparently I can’t get Meta verified yet, as I recently changed my personal accounts name, ugh ) .

We’re using the Apify scraper, you can only use 1 a month, but just use it from different mail adresses, so you can go again.

If you get those results, clean them up in a google sheet, so you can more clearer see the top performing links from the competitors, and redo them with AI, if you want.

I still don’t use AI to much for my niches though, I still don’t think it is always appropriate for both of my niches, especially because I am promoting a wildlife camera on my page!

But for my mini niche, I do use AI pictures and memes for jokes, that seems to work nicely! I would think it over about what YOU would like to see in your niche if you joined a page.

People I know in real life, told me that they wanted to unfollow my page, because there was to much AI at a certain point. So we changed back to using Meme Generator - Imgflip to create memes with real animal pictures, and I personally think that’s so much better!

Gosh man, there’s so much to tell about this hahahaha

Great advice. Have you tried using GPT to optimise your ad copy? … it’s supposed to be better than humans at A/B testing … lol.

I looked at arbitrage many years ago. I think it was with Adwords. Seemed like a lot of work for minimal results but then the dude who was pushing the method swore by it.

Then again, they always do don’t they.

Yeah I do often feel like I’m treading on egg shells working with Reddit. Lol.

If anyone is curious about the Apify Store we are using, it really does produce some astonishing results!

Essentially, you can set the Facebook Posts Scraper to retrieve as many results as you want (we are using 1,000) and then export them to a Google Sheet. They can be sorted by Reactions, Comments, and Shares, with the most popular at the top. Then work your way through each post, to see if you can adapt it to something similar for your niche.

Hmmm, wondering how hard it would be to code something like that. How much does that cost?

And was there a reason you went with Metricool vs. other schedulers? Andy from HikeYourLikes recommends PostPlanner while I’ve also seen Strevio recommended too. Curious if Metricool is any better than the others.

It is $5 per 1000 results (maximum of 5000 results), but the first run is free. Hence, you can log in with multiple email addresses to get it for free endlessly! Lots of info here 📝 Facebook Posts Scraper · Apify

It’s Lizzy’s Metricool account. I am sure she will answer you at some point!
